Hi, my name's Dr Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist. I'd like to take a moment to tell you a little bit about atrial fibrillation.

Well, it is when the top part of the heart, the atria go out of their normal rhythm and become rather chaotic. They make the heart pump ineffectively, inefficiently, and the heart races. Often people lose energy. Sometimes they can even blackout. They may get chest pain or shortness of breath. Can be scary. Atrial fibrillation is really common. It affects one per cent of the population and fifteen per cent of people over 80 years of age. It's a condition that we're seeing more and more of as the population ages.
