Hi, my name's Dr Warrick Bishop and welcome to my Healthy Heart Minute. I'd like to share a quick few thoughts about automatic electrical defibrillators today.
Well, these devices are becoming more and more accessible as technology and production techniques make them cheaper and more available broadly. Well, should you have them at home? At this stage, there's not a lot of data to suggest that's necessarily going to help. There was a study in 2008 looking at that specific question. Having said that, there's no question these devices save lives and there are people who will recount that very situation. Greg Page, the original yellow wiggle, for example, was saved by one of these devices at the RSL club where he was performing when he had a cardiac arrest.
Well, the role of these agents, of these devices is really important. And I think we will see more and more of them in the community because they are life saving.
