Hi, my name is Dr. Warrick Bishop and welcome to my Healthy Heart Minute. I'm a cardiologist and I wanted to share with you quickly a story, which is a great reminder that if we don't look, we don't know.

I had a patient who came along, having had a stress test and was reassured that no major problems were found. When I saw this gentleman, he clearly still wasn't quite right. So the stress test had perhaps been reassurance for the doctor who did the test, but it didn't really solve the problems for this patient, and in particular for his wife. He knew things weren't right. When I saw the patient, I decided to do a different sort of testing, a scan on his heart, literally looking at the health of his arteries.

Well, amazingly not only did we turn up that his arteries were unhealthy, but we saw that he had clots in the lungs as well. Two conditions that could lead to his premature death. Well, we were able to get the right medications, right treatment, strategies in place, and really changed this gentleman's life.

I've got a podcast on the very topic attached. It's an impressive story. It was a great bit of luck and good fortune, but a great reminder of the testing we probably should be thinking about to save lives.
