Hi, my name is Dr. Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist. Welcome to my Healthy Heart Minute. One of the things I'd like to share with you today is about why stents or why bypass. I get plenty of patients who need something done to their hearts and they often ask, "Why am I getting a stent or why am I getting a bypass and not the other rule or how does that work?

What the long and the short of it is that we think about these things long and hard to try and figure out the best practical solution. It's a little bit like if you spoke to your plumber and said, I've got problems with my pipes, the plumber might replace one small section of pipe, or he might say we need to do something more extensive.

Anyway, the decision about stents and bypass is generally one based on practical grounds and technical grounds.
