Hi, my name is Dr. Warrick Bishop and I'm a cardiologist. Welcome to my Healthy Heart Minute. Today, I've got something a little bit celestial for you- Astronauts. Well, what an interesting thought.
Before space travel in 1961, when Yuri Gagarin went into space, scientists really show what space would offer for the human body.
They weren't sure if man would bow when they urinate or swallow, and I had no idea what was going to happen with the blood flow. Well, it turns out the blood flow, as you might expect in a zero gravity environment is not likely to expect on earth. Fascinating. What sort of problems does it cause? Well, it can swell the eyeballs of astronauts. They often will alter their vision. There's all sorts of bits and pieces as well.
