Hi, my name's Dr Warrick Bishop. I'm a cardiologist and this is my Healthy Heart Minute. This minute is about blood pressure and why the fuss?

I'll tell you, blood pressure is the wear and tear on your entire vascular system. That means that the wear and tear is represented by problems with the arteries. Stroke, heart attack. If you put your heart under load, you can develop atrial fibrillatio. You can develop cardiac failure. And if you put your kidneys under load, you can even develop renal failure. There's research as well telling us that raise blood pressure is linked to dementia.

So, why the fuss about blood pressure? Stroke, heart attack, atrial fibrillation, cardiac failure, renal failure, and dementia. I tell you what, if you're not looking after your blood pressure, you're not looking after your health.
